Dog owner travels to Norway with dying pet for one last road trip: "It was nice to see him carefree again"

Herdla, Norway – In the spring of this year, Sara Koller learned that her 11-year-old Chihuahua dog Nini was suffering from rapidly progressing lymphoma. Not knowing how much time she and her pet had left together, she booked a sudden trip to Norway.

In mid‑March, the Viennese dog owner noticed something was off with her furry companion.

As the 29‑year‑old told PEOPLE, Nini was breathing unusually heavily while sleeping.

Shortly after, Sara took her to a vet, who suspected a respiratory infection.

The little Chihuahua was put on antibiotics – but to no avail.

The dog gradually lost more and more weight.

At a specialized clinic, the shock came: a fine‑needle biopsy revealed that Nini had cancer, more specifically lymphoma.

The chemotherapy began that very same day.

Instead of sitting around waiting for her pet to pass, the dog owner chose a completely different path. Together with her beloved Nini, Sara traveled to northern Europe.

"I wanted to make sure that he gets to see a little more of the world... Touch grass he has never touched before," the woman explained.

On TikTok, she posted a video of the Norway trip. For Sara and Nini, the destination was the Herdla region, where the ailing canine could truly let loose.

The planning of the trip, according to the 29‑year‑old, was both heartbreaking and exhilarating.

"I try not to let his diagnosis overshadow the time I have left with him... Positivity is healing," she said.

"I had never been [to Norway], and I saw the greenery and the fjords and knew this was it!” she explained.

There, she got to see a special side to the so-called Velcro dog.

"I will forever remember him happy with his family," the pet mom said.

"I think dogs understand when they are very sick and going through something as traumatic as weekly vet visits. It was nice to see him carefree again."

The video she posted on TikTok reached countless people – over half a million users watched the clip.

In the comments a huge wave of support poured in, wishing the pup well in his travels over the rainbow bridge.
