Dog stumbles into a dollar store all alone – when workers get a closer look, they are heartbroken

San Antonio, Texas – This poor, confused dog staggered into a Dollar Tree store in San Antonio, Texas, looking rather clumsy. The pooch kept bumping into something or other in the aisle. When the staff took another look at the furry visitor, they realized the bitter truth.

At a second glance, it was no surprise that the four‑legged friend was disoriented.

Upon closer inspection, workers could see that the doggo was completely blind. Of that there could be no doubt – there weren't even any eyeballs in his sockets.

However, the pup's pink collar made it clear that he wasn’t necessarily a stray.

An owner was nowhere to be found, however, so the team called in the San Antonio Animal Care Services for help.

To the rescuers’ amazement, Stevie – or so he was called – proved to be extremely docile.

"He obviously had a person at some point," Lisa Norwood, PR manager for San Antonio ACS, told The Dodo.

They had no trouble getting the little guy into their van.

Then they took him to the vet for a full check‑up to examine his overall health and learn more about the status of his eyes.

On site, it could be confirmed that Stevie had lost his sight. Why, however, no one could really say.

Born blind, developmentally impaired, or the result of a viral infection – virtually every explanation was possible.

One thing was certain, though: no one could help Stevie get his eyes back.

So he was taken to the animal shelter, where the staff spent days waiting for an owner to come forward. But that simply never happened.

Eventually they put their four‑legged, blind friend up for adoption.

Of course, finding a home for an animal with such a handicap is difficult. Yet in this case a small miracle occurred.

Luckuly, a woman soon expressed interest in the dog.

"Stevie made an impression on her, touched her heart," Norwood said, and she could announce a happy ending right away: the woman has now taken him in permanently.
