Dog walking alone on a leash brings police officers to a stunning discovery
Leawood, Kansas - A police officer was on duty in Leawood on September 17 when a small dog appeared on the street. The animal was on a leash, but its owner was nowhere in sight. Shortly after, the officer made a stunning discovery.
This week, authorities released portions of the body‑cam footage the officer had recorded. The video shows the little four‑legged creature barking excitedly at the police officer.
The officer remains calm, steps out of his patrol car, and says, "Hey, why don't you go on back home?"
Indeed, the dog soon heads back home. However, the cop follows at a walking pace in his cruiser.
According to police, he trailed the furry friend for about half a block. The animal then led him to a driveway where a larger dog was standing.
The officer noticed the garage door was open and approached.
"Is this where you live?" the officer can be heard asking the dogs in the body‑cam video.
It then becomes clear what happened: The owner of the dogs is lying helpless on the garage floor.

"The resident had been there for more than three fours," the police explained on Facebook. "Thanks to the resident's loyal companion, our officer was able to find them and get them the help they needed."
The video has since on gone viral, earning hundreds of thousands of views and more than 7,000 likes.
"One dog stayed to protect the owner; the other dog went to look for help," one user wrote in the comments.
While many praised the loyal canines, others also gave a shoutout to the police officer who followed them.
"Kudos to the officer for paying attention to the pup!!" one wrote.
