Blue Springs, Missouri – A family recently went on vacation without their Chihuahua-terrier mix. What happened after they arrived broke the hearts of everyone at the animal rescue.

In an Instagram video by Pawportunities in Missouri, staff shared the tragic story they had been told about the dog, named Professor Pork Chop.

“After returning from a recent vacation, we realized we didn't miss him at all–and I honestly didn’t even want to go pick him up when we got back,” the family member wrote as their reason for surrender, seen in a video shared on Instagram by the rescue.

The video shows the adorable yet terrified 11-year-old pup shaking uncontrollably, showing staff trying to console him, and him shaking nonstop in his kennel, which the staff acknowledged "is only going to make it worse."

But the fear written across the animal’s face quickly makes his story even more heartbreaking for staff and social media viewers alike.

"He is a really scared little guy, and he feels like the sky is falling and he doesn’t know what to do about it," the rescue wrote in the caption.

"Everything he’s ever known in life is gone- his home, his people, his things. While Professor Pork Chop tries to process these things, and comprehend what’s even going on, he needs the warmth, love, comfort, and security only a foster home can provide. He needs a loving embrace that will reassure him everything will be ok."

The video has nearly 200,000 views at the time publishing.

Whether that will translate into concrete action remains to be seen. All we can wish is for the senior pup to soon find a loving home again.
