This husky might be Houdini's reincarnation: "We were dying laughing"
Richmond, Virginia - Dogs belong inside their kennels, not on top! When Virginia's Richmond Animal Care & Control team went in to check on their furry charge, they discovered that their husky had made a break for it. Instead of being in her crate, this escape artist was sitting on top!
"Staff walked in to find Maya casually hanging out like she'd paid rent, having expertly escaped her covered kennel in true husky fashion," staff from Virginia's Richmond Animal Care & Control wrote on Facebook last month.
The female dog named Maya had managed to break out of her locked kennel overnight.
"No panic, no destruction. Just a fluffy escape artist reminding everyone that locks are merely puzzles..." they wrote.
Shelter workers even shared a pic of Maya looking utterly pleased with her magic trick!
"We were dying laughing and then really wondered how she managed it," Christie Peters, head of Richmond Animal Care & Control, told The Dodo.
The staff quickly figured out that Maya had managed to wiggle through a rather small hole between the kennel and the wall. This cage was clearly no match for the smart young husky!
Shelter workers found the husky's escape heartwarming
While shelter workers were surprised by Maya's Houdini-like antics, they weren't upset.
They found her escape heartwarming and proof of the dog's impressive transformation.
Maya was in bad shape when animal control officers rescued her from a Virginia yard. She'd had a chain wrapped around her neck so tightly it was embedded.
"She is such a happy-go-lucky dog," Peters explained. Still, she's also too smart to be contained!
Since her escape, Maya has moved on to a foster home, where she's calmed down.
"We think she is amazing, clearly a problem solver," Peters said. "We hope someone will adopt her and think the same!"
Sounds like this dog needs a home entertaining enough that she doesn't try to escape!
