Kansas City, Missouri – Originally, the police officers only wanted to catch a car thief, but things then turned into a bizarre rescue operation! In the trunk of the stolen vehicle, the officers made an unexpected discovery: two baby goats!

On the scene, officers quickly arrested a suspect in a car theft, as a police department Facebook post explains.

During the arrest, they also heard something unusual coming from the trunk.

At first, the police thought they were merely hearing a ringtone that sounded like a goat's call.

They asked the alleged thief whether the noise was coming from his phone.

He replied, "No, those are real goats. They're in my trunk."

Incredulous, the officers opened the trunk and, indeed, found two baby goats – a female and a male!

The two animals were very young and still needed to be bottle‑fed.

Apparently, the goats weren't pilfered. Since their owner was now arrested and could no longer care for them, however, the goats were quickly placed with a goat‑savvy foster family where they could be nursed back to health.

When they arrived, the two baby goats were in poor condition.

Consequently, Denver – the little kid with the perked ears – was worryingly thin.

Aspen, the female, was in a similarly bad state and suffered from a severe intestinal parasite infestation.

Even though the alleged car thief’s situation looks bleak, there was a happy ending for the two baby goats.

After a 10‑day found‑animal period, the foster family decided to adopt Denver and Aspen permanently.

Now, the incredibly friendly little goats can recover from their ordeal in their new home and, hopefully, regain their strength soon.
