Kirkland, Washington – A Washington homeowner thought someone had broken in and called the police. When officers arrived, they quickly realized the intruder was a real animal – literally. It was a bobcat!

This burglar turned out to be a bobcat. The bizarre incident occurred in the Moss Bay neighborhood of Kirkland, Washington.

When the resident heard a loud banging inside their home, they called the police, thinking someone had broken in.

Officers at the scene soon discovered a bobcat in the house. Instead of sending a human in, they sent a drone in to corral the animal and wait for wildlife services.

"This allowed officers to maintain a safe distance and guide the response without placing anyone at unnecessary risk," the Kirkland Police Department reported on Facebook.

Once the bobcat was isolated, officers from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife were able to safely sedate the wild cat and remove it from the home.

The cat burglar was later released back into the wild near Forbes Creek. "No injuries were reported to the resident, officers, or bobcat," The officers reported.

Everyone knows that bobcats aren't really burglars, so what was this wild animal doing inside this Kirkland resident's house? According to the police, the bobcat was most likely following the resident's cat.

"Officers believe the bobcat climbed a tree and jumped through an open window, possibly drawn inside by the resident's cat," they said. Talk about what the cat dragged in!

Per the authorities, "The cat was later found unharmed."

Despite this happy ending, Washington authorities took the opportunity to remind residents to keep their distance from bobcats and call emergency services if one does break into their home.
