Zittau, Germany - When a little shelled friend arrived at a police station in the German state of Saxony, it couldn't be immediately relocated to a shelter. As a result, the officers looked after their little turtle friend.

The turtle had been spotted by citizens on Sunday evening on Gerhart-Hauptmann Street (that will become important!). At a nearby border crossing, the sweet animal lovers handed the creature over the federal police.

When the little dude was delivered to police near in Zittau, the officers on duty had to keep it in custody for a few hours before the animal shelter could pick it up.

Eventually, the officers were able to arrange a spot for it in a local wildlife park – but the poor little armored beastie needed to wait an entire day!

Thus, the animal – likely a yellow‑cheeked ornamental turtle – spent a night under the care of the police, getting pampered like a little champion.

Eventually, it became clear what their new little friend needed to be named – Gerhart Hauptmann, after the street it had been found on. A fitting name for law enforcement's new best friend!

The tale came to a fitting end on Monday morning, when Gerhart Hauptmann was picked up by his new family and moved to his new home in a nearby animal shelter. After all – all's well that ends well!
