Austin, Texas - A violent storm resulted in the collapse of an entire house in Texas, burying two workers beneath it. Tragically, it was too late to help one of them.

The accident occurred on August 27 at a construction site in Austin, as KXAN reports.

Four men were working on the shell of a house when heavy rain and wind gusts reaching about 50-70 mph swept across the site.

According to rescue crews, the wind shifted the structure, and the entire house collapsed. Two workers managed to get to safety in time, while the other two were trapped inside the wooden frame.

Photos of the scene show the massive roof and timber structure lying almost entirely on the ground as firefighters searched the debris for the trapped men.

Because the collapsed building was unstable, rescuers had to proceed with extreme caution – another collapse could have endangered both the trapped workers and the rescue teams.

One of the men sustained injuries so severe that he was declared dead at the scene. The second trapped worker suffered leg and ankle injuries and was airlifted to a hospital.

The surviving man is now back home. His daughter, Norma Salcido, launched a campaign on GoFundMe to help cover her father's medical expenses, as he reportedly suffered a broken foot and bruised ribs.

Fire chief Chris Barron later explained that the structure might not have been stable enough to withstand the strong gusts of wind.

The site was shut down after the collapse. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is now investigating how the fatal accident occurred.
