Salinas, California - Packaged fruits and vegetables producer Taylor Farms announced it is recalling all its prepared food items containing jalapeños over concerns about salmonella contamination.

In a press release on Sunday, Taylor Farms announced it is recalling a vast assortment of products – sold across the US by many major grocery chains – after being notified that Coast Citrus Distributors is recalling its fresh peppers.

"Due to potential Salmonella contamination, Taylor Fresh Foods is recalling finished products containing jalapeños," the statement read.

"A grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, that supplies to Coast Citrus Distributors was identified as the potential source in this outbreak," it said.

"Taylor Fresh Foods is no longer sourcing products from this farmer and will be filling orders from alternative suppliers."

Among the products recalled by Taylor Farms are its microwavable rice and bean burrito, pico de gallo salsa, taco dip, and spicy guacamole. It provided a 16-page list of the potentially contaminated products.

Salmonella is a bacteria, usually transmitted through raw meat, poultry, eggs, and unpasteurized milk, that causes severe food poisoning. It can be seriously dangerous for young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration said last week they are investigating a major salmonella outbreak across 27 states.

It comes at a bad time for Taylor Farms, which has already found itself at the center of a diarrhea-inducing cyclosporiasis parasite outbreak linked to its products.

CDC numbers show that two people have died due to the cyclosporiasis outbreak, as of last week. There have been well over 6,000 cases, and nearly 300 hospitalizations.
