The US and Israel launched the war on Iran with a series of deadly strikes on February 28, 2026. Tehran retaliated by attacking US targets in Gulf countries and blocking the vital Strait of Hormuz waterway.

The US faces accusations of war crimes, including for the bombing of an elementary school in Minab which killed more than 100 children. The Trump administration has cited various reasons for its war, including halting Iran's nuclear program (which Tehran insists is for peaceful purposes), destroying missile capabilities, and backing Israel. Meanwhile, Iran has vowed to continue resisting US-Israeli aggression.

Despite signing a memorandum of understanding with Tehran in June 2026, the Trump administration has resumed its strikes on Iran, shattering hopes of peace.
