As the Mirror reports, Libby and Joe Burgwin were extremely worried about their dog TJ. The pup had vomited several times and was also struggling to breathe. At first, his owners couldn't figure out what was wrong with him.

During the examinations, the veterinarians were quite surprised: the X‑ray revealed a rubber duck in TJ's esophagus.

"The head vet called us and said, 'We've done one X-ray; we don't need to do any more. Have you lost any rubber ducks? They said this was the weirdest thing they'd ever seen a dog swallow," Libby recounted.

The toy had to be removed in an emergency surgery.

When the vets finally extracted the rubber duck, they found that it had shrunk from its original size while stuck in TJ's esophagus. Not only that, but the duck's characteristic yellow coating had disappeared!

The French bulldog is healthy again today.

To this day, the owners can’t understand how TJ managed to get the yellow rubber duck down.

"We have no idea how he swallowed it or how he got it down, how we didn't notice it because he must have been in some pain. They said it was almost lucky it was so big because it couldn't move to his stomach," the couple said.

Fortunately, the unusual incident ended well for TJ. According to his owners, the dog is now absolutely fine. Just five days after the surgery, he was “back to his old self.

One consequence of the incident, however, is that all rubber ducks have been temporarily banned from the house so TJ won’t be tempted to eat another toy.
