Lillian (or, as her followers affectionately call her, “Grandma”) Droniak is living proof that getting older doesn’t have to make life any duller.

During the COVID crisis, the 96‑year‑old from Connecticut started posting short videos on TikTok and Instagram with her grandson. "I always knew I had it in me to be famous," Droniak told the BBC in an interview, “I just never imagined it would happen after I turned 90.”

Today, the senior has almost 20 million followers across platforms. She believes many of her fans tune in because they’re surprised at how much joy one can still have in such an advanced age.

“I'm showing it's not that bad to get old. We embrace it, can still have fun, and I'm still partying and going out sometimes,” the senior explained in the interview. A June incident proves there’s truth to her words: after a wild party at her nursing home, Lillian was almost kicked out of the door.

And that zest for life is exactly what the 96‑year‑old showcases in her videos. Household hacks, dating life, fashion tips – Grandma Droniak is always at the forefront!

She doesn’t hold back – and why should she?

Thanks to her reach, the senior has also built a strong negotiating position in talks with advertising partners.

Thus, the 96‑year‑old can not only cover the nursing home costs of about $12,000 per month with her ad revenue, but also invest part of the money in a study fund earmarked for her great‑grandchildren.

As for the once-tense situation between her and the nursing home, it has calmed down again. However, Lillian has been prohibited from serving alcoholic drinks since the party.
