New Brunswick, Canada - The mother of an autistic boy in Canada has gotten herself an adorable keyboard tattoo on her arm to help make it easier for him to communicate with her.

Jessica Fletcher's son Hunter was diagnosed with autism at only three years old. Now 11, he relies on Augmentative and Alternative Communication devices to communicate, aided by gestures and rudimentary sign language.

When all modes of communication failed one day, however, Fletcher realized that she needed to do something a bit more drastic to make sure she and Hunter could always communicate with one another. It was then that she hatched a plan!

She made the trip to a local tattoo studio and got them to give her a full-sized QWERTY keyboard inking on her arm, complete with a space bar, an "I <3 You" button, and keys for smiley and sad faces.

"As soon as I showed it to him after picking him up from school, he immediately grabbed my arm and typed 'Mama,'" she was cited as saying by the Mirror. "Later that evening, before bed, he used it to say, 'I love you mama'"

"I just knew in my heart at that moment that he understood it was permanent, like my other tattoos, and that it was all for him," she explained. "The response has honestly been overwhelming, but in the best way."

"It made me realize that he has been reading and remembering signs as we drive around and go about our everyday lives."

"I hope other families see our story and realize they don't have to wait for spoken words to start listening," she said.
