Kyiv, Ukraine - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday said he and his team are planning their "next steps" after speaking with President Donald Trump's negotiators and various European officials.
"A meeting with the negotiating team following our talks with the US President's envoys in Kyiv," Zelensky wrote in a statement to X alongside a series of photos from his meeting with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.
"Yesterday, I also had a separate tête-à-tête with Steve and Jared to discuss the day's outcomes," he continued. "The most important thing is to continue working together actively to keep diplomacy going."
"We had substantive discussions about our air defense needs, the relevant technological cooperation, and the winter package we need. Our partners know what can bear fruit and what must bear fruit ahead of winter."
"We are coordinating our next steps. We are preparing the next meetings and communications. Ukraine's proposals are constructive, and they always will be."
Witkoff and Kushner had met with Russian President Vladimir Putin the day before, to whom they proposed a "number of ideas" to try and secure an end to the war in Ukraine. The effort had the overall goal of restarting three-way talks between Washington, Kyiv, and Moscow.
On Monday, a Kremlin spokesperson indicated that Moscow is willing to resume talks with Ukraine and the US after the meeting with Witkoff and Kushner, declaring that the discussions were "extremely frank."
Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday that Russia "does not rule out the resumption of the trilateral format, but it is too early to say anything about the venue or the exact dates at this stage."
