Rhode Island - Fall is pumpkin season, but what Ron Wallace of Rhode Island has done with these beloved gourds shatters every expectation! His giant pumpkin weighs more than a ton, and it has earned him a world record.
According to Guinness World Records, the record‑breaking vegetable weighed in at an impressive 3,156 pounds at a competition in Rhode Island.
"It is astonishing to see what nature can produce under the helping hands of an expert horticulturist," chief judge Matthew DeBacco emphasized.
After all, the giant pumpkin alone could yield roughly 3,000 pumpkin pies!
For the online garden‑supplies retailer, this is already the third world record set with its cultivars.
In 2006, however, the pumpkin record stood at just 1,502 pounds, and by 2012 it had risen to 2,009 pounds – a crop that made Wallace the first to ever break that 2,000-lb. threshold.
Now, he's the first to cross 3,000 pounds, thanks to his latest gourd!
Earlier this month, Ian Paton from Lymington in the UK nabbed the record with a giant pumpkin weighing 2,856 pounds.
Just a week later, Wallace unveiled his specimen, more than 700 pounds heavier, and reclaimed the pumpkin crown!
