Ottawa, Canada - Canadian conservative opposition leader Pierre Poilievre said there should be "no more caving" into US trade demands by Prime Minister Mark Carney's government.

In a letter sent to Carney by Poilievre and published publicly on the opposition leader's social media, the conservative leader criticized recently announced concessions Ottawa agreed to in exchange for US tariff relief.

Specifically, he singled out recent agreements to scrap Canada's digital service tax, the removal of counter-tariffs, and the sharing of toll revenue from the Gordie Howe International Bridge as examples of Carney's failure to stand up to Washington.

"Let us be clear right off the top: You told Canadians that 'no deal is better than a bad deal,'" Poilievre wrote. "The status quo is a bad deal."

"For the past year and a half, you have backed down to one American demand after another while getting nothing in return, with concession after concession," he complained.

He went on to list a series of demands he has of Carney's government, including the securing of zero tariffs with the US on lumber, steel, aluminum, and autos.

"We want the win and the 'good deal' you promised fifteen months ago," Poilievre said. "No more pursuing policies of a managed decline at home… No more caving."

Poilievre lost against Carney in last year's election, losing his parliamentary seat and being forced to contest a by-election in the riding of Battle River – Crowfoot in Alberta just to stay Conservative leader.

As opposition leader, Poilievre has relentlessly attacked Carney's leadership, particularly over the prime minister's handling of the Canadian economy.

"Canadians deserve a government that has the backbone to fight for our workers, our families, and every inch of our sovereignty," he wrote on Sunday. "Take our plan. Take the credit. Just deliver."
