Los Angeles, California - Amber Heard has been in the news a lot lately following the very public court battles against her ex, Johnny Depp. But all the while, there was much more going on in her life: the arrival of her first baby!

On Thursday, Heard shared a photo of herself and her newborn daughter on Instagram. In it, Heard is lying in a bed with the sleeping baby on her chest.

Her daughter's name is Oonagh Paige Heard and she was born on April 8, the actor wrote, adding, "I'm so excited to share this news with you."

According to People, Heard's daughter came into the world thanks to a surrogate. The 35-year-old address this explicitly in her post, but she did say the birth was the endpoint of a long personal journey.

Heard explained that she had already decided four years ago to have a child, but added: "I wanted to do it on my own terms."

Her post touched on the changing social attitudes to mothers, and of "not [wanting] a ring in order to have a crib."

"A part of me wants to uphold that my private life is none of anyone’s business. I also get that the nature of my job compels me to take control of this," she wrote.

Heard has been dating cinematographer Bianca Butti (38) since early 2020, and spent 15 turbulent months married to Johnny Depp (58), from whom she separated in 2016. The relationship imploded very publically, and the two have since admitted to both being violent with each other.
