Harry Potter actor Robbie Coltrane's cause of death comes to light

Falkirk, UK - In mid-October, actor Robbie Coltrane passed away. For years, the star played the infamous role of the likeable half-giant Hagrid in Harry Potter. Now, the cause of his death has been revealed.

Per Deadline, the 72-year-old died as a result of multiple organ failure. Additionally, according to his death certificate, he also suffered from sepsis, a heart blockage, and a lower respiratory tract infection.

Coltrane had been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes during his lifetime, and had also been in a wheelchair since 2019 due to knee problems.

After news of his death spread on social media, a clip that the actor filmed last year for the big Harry Potter reunion made its rounds.

"The legacy of these films is that my children's generation will show them to their children. I won't be here anymore – unfortunately. But Hagrid will," Coltrane says in it. For many fans, they were the perfect farewell words.

The grief over Coltrane's passing seemed almost boundless, with thousands and thousands of people sharing on social media what the actor had meant to them, especially for his most famous role as Hagrid.

"We are hugely saddened to hear of the passing of the magnificent Robbie Coltrane who played Hagrid with such kindness, heart and humor," read a tweet posted on the official Harry Potter Twitter account.

"I'll never forget the smell of cigars and beard glue - a wonderful combination," actor Rupert Grint (34), who played Ron in the films, shared on Instagram. "No one else on this planet could have played Hagrid, only Robbie."

"Robbie was like the funniest uncle I ever had, but most of all he was very caring and compassionate towards me, as a child and as an adult," recalled Emma Watson, who played Hermione in the films.

Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe also wrote: "Robbie was one of the funniest people I've ever met, he always made us laugh on set as kids."
