Park rose to international fame with the South Korean satire Parasite, which won big at the 2020 Oscars.

Directed by Bong Joon-ho, it took home four awards, including becoming the first non-English-language film ever to win Best Picture.

The movie is about a lower-class family who infiltrates a rich family's home, as each member pretends to perform jobs like a teacher, cook, and chauffeur.

Park's illness has interfered with her work schedule, which included plans to promote her next movie, Special Delivery.

"The company would like to once again thank all the people for showing support for Special Delivery and actor Park So Dam, as well as the actors and crew of Special Delivery overcoming this difficult time together," her agency said.

Whether Park So-dam's next film Ghost will have to be postponed is yet to be determined.
