Anthony Mackie will star in the next Captain America movie
Burbank, California - Anthony Mackie has been confirmed to star in Marvel Studios' upcoming Captain America 4.
In the series finale of the Disney+ show The Falcon and The Winter Solider (FAWS), fans last saw Mackie picking up the mantle as Falcon/Sam Wilson and continuing Captain America/Steve Rogers' heroic legacy.
Now, it has been confirmed by Deadline that Anthony will reprise his role in the next Captain America film.
Captain America was previously played by Chris Evans, and while there have been whispers that he could return, it seems that his arc may have come to an end.
The news answers fans' burning questions on whether Evans would continue playing America's first Avenger.
Reports of a fourth Captain America film first came to light in April. Currently, Anthony is the only actor confirmed to be attached to the impending project.
But that doesn't mean his FAWS costar Sebastian Stan, who played The Winter Solider/Bucky Barnes won't also make an appearance in the film, as he played an integral part in the series.
The bulk of FAWS focused on Sam's struggling with Steve's absence and honoring his wishes — which led to a series of unfortunate and bloody events.
For those who don't remember, the culmination of Avengers: Endgame showed an elderly Steve passing on his shield to Sam.
The original Captain's fate was never fully addressed, though the character is mentioned often in FAWS as being "gone."
However, with the way Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase 4 is currently unraveling, it's possible that Steve could return.
Yet, fans have a ways to go before that's uncovered and Mackie once again dons the vibranium shield, as there hasn't been a release date set for the movie.
In the meantime, The Falcon and The Winter Solider is still available on Disney +.
