The annual ceremony – known as the Razzies – "honors" the worst in movies, handing out gongs for what it deems were the lowlights of the Hollywood year.

Absolute Proof, a documentary from American pillow magnate Mike Lindell alleging the 2020 presidential election was marred by widespread fraud, was named worst picture.

Lindell, a prominent supporter of Donald Trump, was named worst actor for appearing as himself in the film.

Music won worst actor for Kate Hudson, worst supporting actress for Maddie Ziegler and worst director for Sia. The film proved controversial around its release earlier this year and Sia apologised for casting a neurotypical actor as a nonverbal autistic girl and for scenes featuring the use of restraints on autistic people.

Eyebrows were raised in February when Music was nominated for two Golden Globes.

Elsewhere at the Razzies, Sacha Baron Cohen's comedy sequel Borat: Subsequent Movie Film won two awards.

Voters gave Rudy Giuliani, a lawyer for Trump, the prize for worst supporting actor in recognition of his headline-making cameo in the film. He was filmed in a hotel room with Borat star Maria Bakalova, who was posing as a journalist. At one point, Giuliani appeared to have his hand down his trousers and later said he was tucking in his shirt. The scene also earned the former New York City mayor the Razzie for worst screen combo. That was awarded to Giuliani and "his pants zipper."

Worst remake, rip-off or sequel went to Dolittle, the box-office bomb starring Robert Downey Jr, while 365 Days, a Polish erotic romantic drama, was awarded worst screenplay.

And the Razzies reserved a special prize for 2020, a year which proved calamitous for the film business. The year was given a governors' award for the worst calendar year ever.

Each winner earned a $4.97 statuette.

The nine categories were voted for online by 1,097 Razzies members in the US and about 25 countries, the group said.

Hollywood's better work will be under spotlight tonight at the 93rd Academy Awards in Los Angeles.
