The 33-year-old dropped the piano ballad at midnight on Friday UK time, which was 7 PM EST on Thursday stateside.

It is the artist's first new song since her mega-successful album 25 in 2015.

By Friday at noon, the music video for Easy On Me had already been viewed more than 27 million times on YouTube.

The video is directed by Canadian filmmaker Xavier Dolan, who also helmed the clip for Adele's hit Hello, and is shot primarily in black-and-white. It shows her leaving an empty country home in a pickup truck with a suitcase. She plays her new single on a cassette tape while driving and reminiscing. Halfway through, the film bursts into technicolor.

"Go easy on mе, baby," she sings. "I was still a child. Didn't get the chance to feel thе world around me. Had no time to choose what I chose to do. So go easy on me."

Although the lyrics sound as if she might be referring to her now ex-husband Simon Konecki, Adele said the song is written to her 9-year-old son Angelo as an explanation of their divorce.

Fans loved the new single, and the internet was abuzz in singing its praises. As with most of her music, the somber tone pulls at the heartstrings, and left most listeners an emotional wreck – as Adele does best.

She even had some celebs joining in the refrain – shedding tears alongside the singer that felt oh-so-good.

Rapper Drake (34) rejoiced in an Instagram story: "One of my best friends in the world just dropped a new single," he wrote with three heart emojis.

Rapper Lil Nas X, actor Alicia Silverstone (45), and designer Vera Wang (72) also expressed their joyful sadness with emotional posts.

"I feel like I'm 15 again," Lil Nas X said.

"Go easy on me Adele... you always make me cry," Silverstone wrote on Twitter, posting a short TikTok of her getting ready to listen to a new Adele song – with lots of alcohol.

Vera Wang simply tweeted Adele's name followed by exclamation points and a crying emoji.

In an interview with Vogue last week, Adele said that Easy On Me was the first song she wrote on the new album, which she began three years ago when she was 30 – hence the album title.

"When I was 30, my life fell apart without warning," she said.

The song's beginning came to her in the shower, while singing.

Adele's new full-length album 30 is due out November 19.
