Los Angeles, California - Stranger Things fans are for an emotional ride during the show's final season.

Creators Matt and Ross Duffer discussed their plans for the upcoming fifth season at Netflix's Stranger Things SAG event last night in Los Angeles.

Ross Duffer confirmed that the first script for the season has now been completed.

While the first few seasons helped to provide a foundation for the story, the details of the world of the Upside Down were largely withheld until the fourth season began to give fans some insight.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, the Duffer brothers said that there's still a lot left to reveal about the alternate dimension at the center of the show. However, they don't want to pull too much focus from the character audiences have grown so attached to over the past four seasons.

"A lot of these characters have been growing since season one so it’s a balancing act between giving them time to complete their character arcs and also tying up loose ends and doing our final reveals," Ross Duffer said.

The ending of Stranger Things remains a well-kept secret, but the Duffer brothers revealed that they did pitch the full plan for the final season to Netflix.

"We did get our executives to cry, which I felt was a good sign that these executives were crying," Matt Duffer said. "The only other times I've seen them cry were like budget meetings."

Ross said that he views the final season as "a culmination of all of the seasons," pulling unique elements from each rather than having a distinct theme as the previous ones did.

"I think that what we’re trying to do is go back to the beginning a little bit in the tone of [season] one, but scale-wise it's more in line with what [season] four is," he continued.

Given the dark tone of season four, it seems that Stranger Things fans should start emotionally preparing for what the final season holds.
