Last Thursday, an altercation between 53-year-old Christa Thistle and her ex-boyfriend had dramatic consequences.

The couple argued for the umpteenth time about him not moving out of their shared camper trailer after their break-up.

In the process, Thistle began clearing her ex's belongings out of the camper, and throwing some items around, including food that was being cooked.

She then went completely berserk and grabbed the crate that contained her ex's nine-month-old cat.

The poor animal named Stanley was then thrown into a river near the campsite where the two live, along with the box.

As the local sheriff's office reported on its Facebook page, the boyfriend immediately jumped into the water to save the cat, which had been submerged for twenty seconds.

When the alert officers arrived on the scene, Stanley was wet and shivering, but otherwise appeared to be in good shape.

Thistle, on the other hand, initially denied throwing the four-legged friend into the river but was arrested on charges of animal cruelty.

Video captured at the scene shows Thistle denying her ex's accusations, but the police noted that Stanley's owner was "wet from the waist down, consistent with jumping in the river to save him."

She was also abusive towards the police officers and demanded to be taken to jail immediately so that she could "make a phone call, bond out, and kill her ex-boyfriend."

Because of her statement she was also charged with simple assault.

She was denied the bond she wanted and will wait in Volusia County Branch Jail until her first court appearance. The cat was turned over to a local animal control agency as a precaution.
