Husband has shoot-out with wife's lover who had been hiding in their house for a year

Creola, Alabama - An Alabama woman hid her boyfriend for more than a year in the home she shared with her husband without the latter knowing. But a bizarre shoot-out between the two men has investigators questioning her story.

Shortly after his release from the hospital, Michael Amacker (53) was arrested. Hard to believe, but he allegedly hid in the same house as his girlfriend and her husband for more than a year (stock image).

Frank Reeves (58) saw red when his wife Tracey told him on August 15 that there was an intruder in their home.

The 58-year-old immediately drew his gun to chase the would-be-robber, spotting the stranger just a moment before he fired - hitting him in the elbow and lower leg.

But instead of surrendering or fleeing, the man immediately returned fire with his own weapon, said local news station Fox10.

It was a veritable bloodbath and both men had to be taken to hospital afterwards, but they were not seriously injured by the incident.

Nevertheless, Reeves' life was to change forever, as a shocking secret came to light shortly afterwards: the intruder was by no means a stranger, but Tracey's secret lover, Michael Amacker (53).

And as if all this wasn't crazy enough, this man had been living in the same house as the couple for over a year, going unnoticed because Tracy hid him well, providing him with food. Apparently Amacker was more than willing to do his business in bottles.

Tracey was high on meth at the time of the shooting, according to The Daily Star, which is why investigators initially thought she must have accidentally alerted her husband to Amacker's presence.

Had Tracey Reeves wanted to get her husband out of the way?

On Wednesday, shortly after his release from the hospital, Amacker was arrested and charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, and drug possession. Tracy now faces charges for the latter as well.

In addition, a murder for hire investigation is currently underway. Not only had Tracey told her husband that there was an intruder in the house, but she also stated to Amacker that her husband was a burglar, setting them both up to carry firearms.

So had she intended to get Reeves out of the way?

Mobile County Sheriff's Captain Paul Burch said in an interview,

"People that are on meth - you really can't apply a normal rationale to their thought process so you always have to take that into account as well."

He said that they would be asking others in the local drug community if Amacker shared any details of a potential plot to kill Frank Reeves.

Captain Burch said, "Not only do they have paranoia, they can't keep their mouth shut. So if there was some kind of diabolical plan it is very possible Amacker has told some other people."

The veteran investigator was still scratching his head about how Amacker stayed concealed for so long, "I've still yet to figure out how somebody can be staying in your house and you not know it."

"It’s something that I haven't seen in 30-plus years [of police work]."
