West Midlands Police had been searching for 36-year-old Clint Butler, an escaped prisoner in Birmingham, for months on end, as has been reported by Kotaku.

Butler escaped from jail in November and was hiding from the police ever since. He was serving a 17-year extended sentence for charges including robbery and firearms offense.

But apparently, the lockdown boredom got to him, as he ventured out of his hiding place on January 13 to buy a copy of Call Of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War.

West Midlands Police were quick to spot Butler and his friend out in Birmingham, as they acted suspiciously and changed directions when they saw the officers. When asked why Butler was in the city during the UK's current lockdown, he told the police he went out to get the new Call of Duty game because he couldn't "sit around" in lockdown.

The officers suspected something was off and asked for more details, which prompted the nervous prison refuge to attack one of the officers.

The dramatic scene is captured in a body cam footage, which has been uploaded to YouTube.

After he was arrested, police quickly found out that Butler had given them a fake name. He has had his sentence extended by 19 months.

"Quite why he decided to risk being returned to prison by making the idiotic decision to come into town during lockdown with a friend to buy a video game will remain a bit of a mystery," West Midlands Police Superintendent Nick Rowe said.
