On December 4, 2009, the 33-year-old woman was found dead under cold running water in the shower cabinet of her apartment in Caste Hill, Australia.

According to 7News Spotlight, her wrist was cut open.

Near her was a safety razor with the bottom plastic guard removed as well as an apparent suicide note that clearly bore the dead woman's handwriting.

Officers were quick to rule her death a suicide – case open and shut.

Haag's family, however, refuses to believe to this day that the young mother of a then two-year-old child would willingly end her life. They believe Haag was forced to write the suicide note under duress, knowing she was going to die.

The letter read in part, "Never stop loving, never stop living, ever stop… I love you all." The note even includes the line, "He did it."

After her family fought for years for the case to be re-examined, a coroner finally overturned the police suicide finding and returned an open cause-of-death finding in 2013 – once again leaving Haag's loved ones without answers.

With the permission of Nadine Haag's family, crime scene reconstruction and forensics expert Scott Roder has now begun to re-examine the evidence, and he was quick to spot inconsistencies.

"The amount of blood that was documented at the scene was miniscule," Roder told 7News Spotlight. "When you cut your wrist, especially the artery... you're going to have high-velocity arterial spray."

He also believes that her body was put under hot water, causing a savage, perfectly symmetrical burn on her shoulder. Roder thinks that whoever did this to Haag quickly realized their mistake and turned off the hot tap, leaving cold water running, which was discovered by investigators the next day.

After an extensive investigation of the crime scene, the forensic scientist believes Nadine Haag was killed before her suicide was staged. But by whom?

Before her death, Haag and her ex-partner were embroiled in a messy custody battle over their two-year-old child.

To this day, he denies having anything to do with her death. But according to Deputy State Coroner Paul MacMahon, he lied.

"The circumstances of Nadine's death are therefore a mystery," he said.
