According to NJ.com, the Jersey City Police Department visited the home of Luz Hernandez (33) on Tuesday to conduct a welfare check after she was reported missing on Monday by her school's officials.

"Blood splatters" were found on the door of the apartment, and officers immediately got a warrant to search the property.

Findings at the apartment led officers to a semi-desolate industrial area north of the Pulaski Skyway in Kearny, where her body was discovered. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The BelovED Charter School, where Hernandez began as a teachers assistant in 2017, closed Wednesday out of respect for the loss of their staff member.

"She was one of the best teachers, everybody loves her, all the kids," a cousin of Luz's, who requested to stay anonymous, told NBC New York. "It's just like, so complicated to think about this. We want justice."

Luz Hernandez leaves behind three children and a community of students and coworkers that will miss her dearly.
