West Virginia man allegedly killed girlfriend's son with a hammer

Beckley, West Virginia - Rashad Akeem Thompson has been charged with murder for allegedly killing a seven-year-old with a hammer.

According to a press release from the Beckley Police Department in West Virginia, responding officers were called to the Lewis Ritchie Apartments around 2:45 AM on March 18.

There, they found a 24-year-old woman named Felicia Brown with stab wounds. Thompson, her 34-year-old partner, is said to be responsible for the facial injuries.

Brown had to be taken to a hospital in critical condition because of her wounds. She is said to be recovering.

According to WSAZ.com, Brown ran to a neighbor for help in saving her children. The neighbor reportedly went to Brown's apartment, where Thompson apparently had it in for the two kids.

The neighbor reportedly saved the two-year-old, but not the older sibling.

The seven-year-old was discovered lying on the couch with a severe wound to the left side of his head.

When officers obtained a search warrant for the premises, they also found a broken knife.

Police arrested the suspect at the scene. He reportedly told them, "I just lost it."

Thompson is now being held at the Southern Regional Jail pending arraignment. He faces charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, child abuse resulting in death, and malicious wounding.
