For most partners, oral sex is an exciting part of sexy time and an essential part of foreplay.

The most well-known mouth-to-gentital sex position is the infamous "69" – when one partner lies on top of the other for some simultaneous satisfaction.

But the classic over-under can require some stamina, balance, and serious muscle skill – and often results in one partner having to focus on holding themselves up while also trying to rev up their partner.

For more comfortable and relaxing turn-ons, sex experts at Insider gave some advice on sexy alternatives for tongue-and-mouth action.

Here's some hot tips to take pressure off the neck and put it on your partner's hot button on the road to the big climax.

69 sideways

As the name suggests, this oral alternative still requires partners to lie head-to-toe, but instead positions them side-by-side rather than on top of one another.

"This easy position is hot because it offers an awesome, up-close view of your partner's genitals," author and certified sex coach Gigi Engle said.

Since the neck can get some relief, couples may be able to last longer than in the usual 69 variation – for some extra long fun.

Kneeling on the edge

Get to the edge of the bed to get your partner on the edge of a big finish!

One partner lies comfortably in bed on their back and positions themselves at the end of the bed. The giver then kneels on the floor in front of the bed, for an all-access pass to their partner's sweet spot.

"If you want, the receiver can put their feet on the giver's shoulders for a little more balance, or they can let their legs dangle," Engle explained.

Giraffe

This position might have you singing, "You and me baby ain't nothing but mammals", as it can make you and your partner feel like animals in the bedroom!

The Giraffe position turns "giving head" on it's head. The giver lies face up with their head hanging backwards off the bed, while the receiver stands close enough to the side of the bed so that their private parts are just above their partner's mouth.

If the receiving partner has a penis, this is an ideal position to make deep-throating easier, as the giver's neck is elongated and supported for a truly topsy-turvy blow job.

Face-sitting

Take a seat, literally! While one partner lies face-up on their back, the receiver is positioned on their knees and straddles their partner's face to enjoy some action from below.

Or, try to flip it and reverse it! For more options, the straddling partner can either face forwards or backwards.

"You're in an active position, which allows you to get what you want while feeling very in charge," Engle said. She suggested that the partner above can use a riding motion to increase stimulation and pace. Just beware of the lower partner's air supply!

69 minus one: The 68

An alternative to face-sitting is the lesser known sex position called The 68. Similarly to its 69 counterpart, partners lie head-to-toe, with one partner lying on the other's chest. The difference here is that the partner on top is facing upwards, so that only the lower partner has easy access to do the pleasuring. The position can be made easier on the bottom partner's neck by propping themselves up on their elbows for support and closer placement.

T-shape

Adventurous couples can further explore the language of love by spelling out the alphabet with their bodies. A great option for oral sex is beginning with the letter "T".

One partner lies on their side with their top leg bent, so that their foot rests flat on the bed and provides plenty of open-access. The giving partner then lies perpendicular to their partner, so that when their mouth reaches their sex buddy's bits, their bodies have made a T-shape together. The sideways approach creates a varied angle that gives plenty of opportunity to suck on new areas, and hit multiple pleasure points at once.

Doggy-style

The well-known doggy style is popular for penetration, but you might be surprised to find that it's an exciting option for oral sex as well.

The receiver is positioned in front of and facing away from their partner on their hands and knees – or can even try lying face-down on the bed. The giver is then positioned behind them with lots of options for oral play from behind. Getting handsy or adding in sex toys to this position can make things super spicy!

With tons of new positions to get the juices flowing, partners can now pleasure their playmates pain-free – or sit back, relax, and enjoy on the way to the big bang.
