Woman with tattooed eyeballs admits she's on the verge of going blind

Belfast, UK - A tattooed woman was inspired to get her eyeballs inked. As it turns out, she may have benefited from being a bit more cautious as she's now experiencing vision loss.

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. But tattoo enthusiast Anaya Peterson may be experiencing a bit of regret for her decision to follow in Amber "Dragon Girl" Luke's footsteps.

Like Luke, Peterson had both of her eyeballs tattooed, opting to get one purple, and the other blue. Though she knew of the risks involved with tattooing one's eyeballs – such as going blind and her own children's reservations – Peterson decided to go for it.

After all was said and done, Luke's brief period of blindness ended after three weeks. However, Peterson found out the hard way that no two people are the same.

"I’m basically on the verge of going blind," Peterson reportedly told Kennedy News. "I don’t have 20/20 vision anymore. From a distance, I can’t see features on faces."

"If I didn’t have my eyeballs tattooed, I wouldn’t be having this problem," she added. "Even today, I woke up with more floaters in my eyes. And that is dangerous."

When Peterson initially expressed interest in getting her eyeballs inked, the mom told the outlet that her 7-year-old daughter "wasn't on board at all."

After getting just one eyeball tattooed without experiencing any issues for the first six months, she got her other eyeball inked, as well. However, things took a turn in the summer of 2021 when Peterson said she woke up with swollen eyelids that looked as if she had gone "five rounds with Mike Tyson."

She then checked herself into the hospital for three days, and doctors biopsied her eye. Apparently, the heavily tattooed woman – who also has several body modifications including a split tongue – is at risk for developing cataracts.

Peterson now posts regular updates on TikTok about her vision loss journey, which she said doctors strongly believe is related to tattoo sarcoidosis rather than her eyeball ink being done "incorrectly."

Apparently hindsight really is 20/20.
