New York, New York - A judge has denied former President Donald Trump's request to pause a defamation lawsuit filed by writer E. Jean Carroll, who previously accused him of rape, which means he will have to sit for an upcoming deposition.

US District Judge Lewis Kaplan announced the decision on Wednesday, citing Trump's attempts to further delay the trial as "inexcusable."

"The defendant should not be permitted to run out the clock on the plaintiff's attempt to gain a remedy for what allegedly was a serious wrong," judge Kaplan reportedly argued.

Carroll, a longtime writer for Elle magazine, has made claims that Trump raped her in a department store in Manhattan in the 90s.

During his presidency, Trump denied the allegations while calling her a liar, insulting her appearance, and claiming she's "not my type."

Carroll filed the defamation suit back in 2019, claiming that his comments harmed her reputation.

Trump's legal team has argued that his actions fall under the Westfall Act, which keeps government employees from civil lawsuits when they are acting within the capacity of their position.

The team has tried, with no luck, to delay the trial as a Washington DC appeals court decides if he was acting as president. If affirmed, it would allow the Justice Department to replace him as defendants in the case.

Donald Trump is scheduled to appear in court for the deposition on October 19.
