The troops will add to the 50 National Guard members she already announced at the end of June, according to The Hill.

In a highly unusual move, the deployment is reportedly being funded by a private donor, Tennessee billionaire Willis Johnson.

"Our South Dakota National Guard is the very best in the country, and they are prepared for the sustained response to the national security crisis at our southern border requires," Noem claimed. "I am hopeful that this mission indicates the Biden Administration is waking up to the devastating situation at the border."

There are already 3,000 National Guard troops from other states positioned at the southern border.

The issues of "border security" and the number of undocumented immigrants entering the US already look like they will be up front and center in the Republican strategy to win back the White House in 2024.

Noem, a vocal Trump supporter, is considered a possible contender for the next GOP presidential primary.

Earlier this year, the ex-president named her one of the future Republican leaders to watch out for.
