The 2022-2023 NBA season is rapidly approaching, and Philadelphia made their final cuts moving away from their second-round draft pick Bassey.

A source confirmed that the center was released by the team on Thursday morning, per John Clark of NBCS Philadelphia.

Bassey’s dismissal from the Sixers comes to no surprise after his unimpressive showing in his league debut.

After sitting out last season due to a contract dispute, Bassey stepped on the basketball court for the first time in the NBA Summer League.

His summer run was not glamorous.

In the team’s preseason debut against the Brooklyn Nets last Monday, Bassey came off the bench late in the second half of the game, playing a total of 14 minutes for four points and nine rebounds.

Following his debut, Bassey remained sidelined for the rest of the preseason in the final games against the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Charlotte Hornets, ultimately never getting another chance to state his case for remaining on the roster.

Now a free agent searching for another opportunity, Bassey should find a new team relatively quickly considering several showed interest in his skill set throughout the 2021 NBA Draft before the Sixers selected him 53rd overall.
