NBA Playoffs: The Hawks close out their series on the road with a comfortable win over the Knicks

New York City, New York – The Atlanta Hawks keep on rolling and they took care of the New York Knicks on the road to advance to the second round.

Trae Young (22) was in the zone, taking control to send the Knicks home for the summer with a 103-89 win in Game 5 to clinch the series.

It’s hard to believe that at age 22, Young – no pun intended, has been playing in his first NBA postseason. His play has reflected something more mature and controlled – and this even after being spat on by an unruly Knicks fan earlier in the series.

So far, he’s averaging just under 30 points per game. That includes a game-high 36 points with nine assists in Atlanta’s series-clinching win on Wednesday night. The Knicks just simply didn’t have an answer for him all series long.

The rest of the team followed suit, playing very well apart from a lackluster showing in game two. Clint Capela had a big game on the boards, pulling down 15 rebounds, to go with 14 points.

The Knicks’ only bright spot might’ve been Julius Randle, this year’s NBA Most Improved Player. But while he managed 23 points to lead New York, his teammates couldn’t keep up and coming up short was a real mantra for the team in this series.

Atlanta gets the top-seeded 76ers in the next round.

The Hawks head to Philly to take on the East’s best team

Atlanta did win a game against the Sixers during the regular season, but they were destroyed by a total of 66 points over two matchups after that. And while the Hawks were only seeded fifth in these playoffs, they shouldn't be underestimated in the next round.

Trae Young’s likely going to get his share of buckets, but it might also be up to Clint Capela, the big man who must stand up to Philly’s MVP candidate in Joel Embiid. The Sixers center is currently dealing with a knee injury that has him listed as day-to-day.

The Hawks will meet the Sixers in Philly to start the Eastern Conference semifinals on Sunday.
