College football: Top 10 player rankings after Week 9

New York, New York - In one of the most impressive weeks of college football this season, JT Tuimoloau became the talk of the town after owning the field on both sides of the ball.

As one of the top players from last weekend, Hendon Hooker of Tennessee put together a night of 245 passing yards, with three touchdown passes and rushing for another.

The Vols passer broke his own record - achieved just one week earlier - of recording a touchdown pass in consecutive games. This week marked his 20th in a row.

Hooker stole the show against Kentucky with the help of his receiver Jalin Hyatt, who also recorded a new program record. After scoring two touchdowns, Hyatt now has the most scores by passes in a single season, breaking the previous Tennessee record, 13, achieved in 1997.

On Monday, Hooker and Hyatt both became semifinalists for the prestigious college football Maxwell Award.

In the Big Ten, receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. shined as a clutch player who pulled through for Ohio State over the weekend when the team needed it most. While Harrison didn't record any touchdowns, he did mark a career-best of 10 catches for 185 receiving yards. Harrison, along with teammate quarterback CJ Stroud, were also became semifinalists this week for the Maxwell Award.

Yet by far, the best player for the Buckeyes on Saturday – and arguably for any team in Week 9 – was defensive end JT Tuimoloau. In an unusual showing by a defensive player, Tuimoloau dominated the field on defense while also picking up a touchdown score himself – earning a spot in our player rankings for the first time this season.

Without a doubt, Tuimoloau was the most impressive player on the field for Ohio State last weekend.

Heading into the fourth quarter with only 16 points on the board, the defensive end was instrumental in building momentum for the Buckeyes to pull out a win.

Tuimoloau was a nightmare for Penn State's quarterback Sean Clifford, sacking and intercepting him twice - returning one of the interceptions for a game-clinching touchdown.

Producing huge stats, the 6-foot-4, 270-pound power athlete posted six tackles, three solos, two sacks, three tackles-for-loss, two interceptions, and a forced fumble – in just one game!

Following his outstanding performance, Tuimoloau earned several weekly honors by the conference and props from football elites.

From his own program, he was deemed Defensive Player of the Game, while the Big Ten Conference awarded him Defensive Player of the Week.

Tuimoloau also picked up national honors from the Walter Camp Football Foundation as being named the Walter Camp Player of the Week.

Ohio State will remain on the road to take on Northwestern on Saturday at noon EST.
