Norman, Oklahoma - After receiving a preferred walk-on offer from the Sooners in December, record-setting wide receiver Eli Merck has decided to take Oklahoma up on the offer and commit to their football program.

On Wednesday, receiver Eli Merck committed to the Oklahoma Sooners as a preferred walk-on over a scholarship offer from Appalachian State.

The high school senior out of South Carolina pledged to play for the Sooners next season with an announcement on Wednesday.

"Be Uncommon… Committed #BoomerSooner," he tweeted.

Merck has chosen to walk-on the Sooners over a scholarship offer from Appalachian State.

In his four high school seasons, the wideout set a record at Daniel High School with 3,233 receiving yards on 171 catches and 49 touchdowns.

His outstanding performances on the field garnered him three All-state honors and All-region honors to go along with his two state championship titles.

Merck will join the Sooners' 2023 recruiting class which is currently ranked as the nation's fourth-best, trailing only behind No. 1 Alabama, reigning national champions Georgia, and Texas.

In the receiver room, the Carolina native will join four-stars Jaquaize Pettaway and Keyon Brown as the class' leading wideouts.

Oklahoma struggled on the field this year in Brent Venables' first season as head coach, but are projected to make a huge turnaround next season with the help of Merck and their talented incoming freshman class.
