MLB: The Cubs clobber the Brewers, snapping Milwaukee’s streak and extending theirs

Chicago, Illinois - The Chicago Cubs are sticking to winning, and they showed their strength by up the Brewers in a double-digit high-scoring affair at Wrigley Field.

The Cubs took it to their division rivals on Friday, coming out of the gates with an outpouring of offense to dominate the Brewers, winning big 15-2. Right from the get-go, the Cubs were on the board big with six runs in the first inning, and four more in the second to send the Brewers a serious message.

Center fielder Jake Marisnick (30) swung big, scoring a career-high five RBIs and three runs including one homer to help his team get their fourth-straight win.

Meanwhile, the Brewers had a three-game winning streak snapped with Friday’s loss. Their Chicago rivals are within one game of Milwaukee for the lead in the NL Central Division standings.

Kyle Hendricks finally got his first win on the mound for the Cubs, pitching six innings and striking out six, while only allowing two runs. Javier Baez, Willson Contreas, and Anthony Rizzo each hit home runs. Altogether, the Cubs finished the game with a total of 17 hits, two more than their season high of 15.

For the Brewers, Kolten Wong had a three-hit game, one of which was a homer for one of Milwaukee’s two runs. Billy McKinney hit a homer of his own, though not much else, as he also struck out twice.

These two teams play again at Wrigley on Saturday, as the Brewers try to return the favor and snap the Cubs’ streak.

Giancarlo Stanton blasted two homers to help the Yankees win two in a row over the Indians 5-3. The Red Sox avoided a three-game skid by squeaking past the Mariners 6-5. And the Twins snapped a three-game losing streak by shutting out the Pirates 2-0.

The Athletics keep on rolling, winning their thirteenth game in a row, 3-1 over the Orioles. In New York, the Mets halted their own three-game losing streak behind Jacob DeGrom’s 15 strikeouts, as they shut out the Nationals 6-0.

In Atlanta, the Braves got their second win in a row, edging out the Diamondbacks 5-4. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays also won two in a row, 5-3 over the Rays. The Royals got a big win over the Tigers 6-2, in Detroit.

The Astros needed extra innings to beat the Angels 5-4. Rookie sensation Yermín Mercedes got four hits to help the White Sox defeat the Rangers 9-7. And the Cardinals held on to win against the Reds 5-4.

Raimel Tapia’s solo home run helped the Rockies get past the Phillies 5-4, while the Giants stayed firm at home against the Marlins, winning 5-3. And the Padres handed the Dodgers their second-straight loss 6-1.

On Saturday, the Mariners and Red Sox go back at it in the afternoon, while the Padres are in LA to face the Dodgers.
