The Milwaukee Bucks presented Lisa Byington (45) as their new full-time exclusive play-by-play announcer for all of their games, starting this upcoming season.

She will be working for the Bally Sports Wisconsin television network, becoming the first woman to regularly announce games not just for an NBA organization, but for any major men’s sports team in American television history.

Peter Feigin, the Bucks team president, who is also president of Fiserv Forum, the home arena of the Bucks, formally announced Byington's hiring on Wednesday via the team’s official website.

"We are so excited to welcome Lisa to the Bucks family and to bring such a talented play-by-play announcer to our broadcast team," Feigin said.

"While we appreciate the significance of selecting Lisa, and we celebrate this historic moment, Lisa earned this position based on her extraordinary skills and experience. We look forward to Lisa becoming the voice of the Bucks."

History-maker Byington replaces a legend

Byington is no stranger to making a little history as she became the first woman to call NCAA men's college basketball tournament games, as part of the CBS/Turner Sports coverage back in March.

Her expertise in sports television has been highlighted on over several networks, included NBC Sports, Fox Sports, Big Ten Network, SEC Network, and ESPN. She’s covered college sports all the way up to men's and women's soccer games at the recent 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Byington will be replacing longtime Bucks announcer Jim Paschke, who just retired at the end of this past season after calling Bucks games for the previous 35 years.

"I am so excited to officially be a part of this championship franchise and to be connected to a championship fanbase," she said in a video she posted through her own Twitter account.
