The Panthers have been chasing the Hurricanes in the Central Division, and they hit 67 points – just one away from the top spot – after winning in overtime 4-3 against Carolina.

MacKenzie Weegar (27) led the Panthers with a goal and two assists as Florida got only its second win of the season against the Canes.

The game was pretty tight, back and forth through the first two periods, but then everything got a lot more serious in the third. The Canes were up 3-1 just minutes into the final period, but the Panthers answered with goals from Alex Wennberg and Gustav Forsling to tie things up and send the game into overtime.

On Monday, the Panthers take on the Predators in Nashville and the Canes will face-off against the Stars in Carolina
