Coming into Saturday’s fight, Font (33) and Garbrandt were ranked fifth and fourth, respectively. With his latest win, Font stands to jump ahead, switching places with Garbrandt and establishing his status as a worthy contender for a shot at his weight class' title.

Font earned his unanimous decision with his jab as his base attack, followed up with a steady dose of bodywork and elusiveness. Garbrandt has been known for bringing the pain with his fists in his previous fights, but Font had to take control early to set the tone and keep from falling into his opponent's traps.

"I was preaching the whole time – stay disciplined," Font said during his post-fight interview with ESPN.

The first round was all Font’s as he used primarily his hands to hurt Garbrandt. Cody held his own in the following rounds, but Font did everything to keep the fight off the mat and in his control. The fourth round saw Font using both his hands and feet to keep up his lead on the scorecards.

Garbrandt made a valiant effort in the final round, finally working in a genuine chance to try and pummel Font. In the end, it wasn’t enough as Font got all three judges to see the fight in his favor.

The official fight stats didn’t lie either, as Font outstruck Garbrandt nearly three-to-one in every striking stat. The only advantage Garbrandt could claim was completing just one more takedown than Font.

Rob Font improves his UFC record to 19-4, while Cody Garbrandt falls to 12-4.
