New smart lock turns your phone into your house key

Colorado Springs, Colorado - The bizarre arms race of home security has a new addition to its arsenal, one that is even more insecure and easy to take advantage of. Introducing your phone as your house keys!

Home security company Schlage has announced a new smart lock system that lets you use Apple's Wallet app to add your house key to your smartphone. Now when you lose your phone, you lose your wallet and your keys along with it.

Jokes aside, this could be a really useful addition to make unlocking your door easier if you don't have two working hands, or if your hands are full of groceries or a baby.

Plus, you can add a snazzy new smart lock to your collection of Wi-Fi gadgets, with the single, yet serious, drawback being that if your home loses power, you better hope your lock is set to unlock – otherwise you might just end up trapped inside your own home.

The incoming smart lock, expected to launch this spring, will also support Apple Watches, and you can even send people you want to let into your castle keys to the gate.

If you are looking for the next high-tech home security option, this new smart lock might be just the thing, but for most people, it seems like an easy way to lock yourself out by accident.
