Brisbane, Australia - Something was looking at her, she could feel it.

And when the elderly Australian woman looked at the ceiling, she was horrified.

Who or what was the creepy creature staring at her from the vents above her hospital bed?

The unusual shape was even moving, she recalled.

The woman became convinced she was being haunted by sinister forces during her hospital stay.

To prove her case, she captured photos of the creature and showed them to her daughter-in-law, Kitt Williams, who was just as shocked. She was certain her mother-in-law wasn't imagining things and took to Facebook to share two of the photos with the Australian Paranormal group.

"It would blink, move, and look around the room. Some times it was there, other times it wasn’t," she wrote, according to 7news.com.au.

"She would think the nurses were coming around to check her as she could feel people touching her, waking her up, but there was no one there," she continued.

Facebook users came up with lots of explanations to solve the mystery. Some were convinced they could even make out fingers or a blonde-haired man hiding behind the vents.

But not everyone bought into the story.

"As someone who has spent a lot of time in hospital, most of the vents that I have seen anyways have that sliver ventilation tubing," one person wrote.

Many others agreed the shape must have been a possum, with one person recalling they had "one peer at me from aircon vents" before.

Whatever it was, the elderly woman will likely keep her distance from air vents for a while...
