Roll up, roll up! Vaccinated New Yorkers get free joints

New York, New York - About three weeks after the New York state legislature cleared the way for the legalization of marijuana, activists have been handing out free joints to those who bring evidence of receiving the Covid-19 vaccine.

Dozens of people lined up in Union Square in Manhattan on Tuesday to get their hands on so some free cannabis.

Almost half of all New Yorkers over the age of 18 have already received at least one dose of the vaccine. The activists had titled the action "Joints for Jabs".

It was all very topical, since 4/20 is known as the unofficial cannabis day, with celebs across the internet lighting up in unity (and gratitude) that marijuana has been legalized in many areas.

At the end of March, the New York legislature cleared the way for the legalization of marijuana after years of dispute.

Legal retail sales of the plants are predicted to begin in late 2022 or early 2023 as the new Office of Cannabis Management is formed and finalizes regulations. The law allows individual New York towns and cities to opt out of retail sales at the local level.

Adult New Yorkers over 21 can legally possess less than 3 ounces of marijuana and smoke it anywhere tobacco is allowed.
