Magic Lessons by Alice Hoffman
Die-hard fans will, of course, know that Practical Magic is based on a book series by beloved author Alice Hoffman.
The 1998 film was based on the novel of the same name, while the sequel is inspired by Hoffman's 2021 read The Book of Magic.
If you're looking to explore more of the Owens family lore left out of the films, check out 2020's Magic Lessons.
This historical prequel traces the curse back to its origins in 16th-century England, where an infant Maria Owens is taken into the care of Hannah Owens after being abandoned in a snowy field.
Maria is soon trained in the ways of magic, and when heartbreak drives her to Salem, Massachusetts, she casts a spell that will change her family forever.
Witchcraft for Wayward Girls by Grady Hendrix
Witchcraft for Wayward Girls from horror star Grady Hendrix tells the story of a teenage mom-to-be named Fern, who has just arrived at the Wellwood Home in St. Augustine.
This home for young, unwed mothers forces the women into shrouded secrecy – they must deliver their babies, give them up for adoption, and pretend it never happened.
But soon, a librarian's gift of a book about witchcraft sparks a dangerous idea in Fern – one that may spell long-awaited liberation for the mothers.
Of course, magic always comes with a price.
Practically Magic by Jen Calonita
A new release in 2026, Practically Magic is a witchy rom-com that's perfect for fans of Practical Magic (if you couldn't tell already from the title!).
This cozy romance follows the Hadley sisters, who live in the quaint town of Mystic Hollow. Just before Halloween, older sister Harriet casts a love spell in the hopes of finding a happily-ever-after for younger sibling Kat.
But Kat grows frustrated at Harriet's attempt to intervene in her romantic life, and her emotions soon explode into a magical disaster that sees all of their spells suddenly reverse.
They must restore the balance, but the perks of this chaotic magic might be too good for Kat to pass up!
