Los Angeles, California - Roughly seven months ago, Grey's Anatomy actor Eric Dane died after a battle with the neurodegenerative disease ALS. His ex‑wife recently opened up about how their daughters are coping with the profound loss.

In February, Dane's daughters, 16-year-old Billie and 14-year-old Georgia, had to say a permanent goodbye to their beloved father – a loss the two teenagers are still coping with months after the tragedy.

“You know, we’re hanging in there,” Gayheart told People. “I think it’s definitely a challenging season, but we’re doing our best.”

“The girls are both in high school – which is also a big transition under any circumstance – so I’m just staying close to my kids,” she adds.

To give her daughters the greatest possible support during an understandably difficult period, she is staying as “close” as possible to them right now.

Eric Dane, best known as “McSteamy” on the hit TV show Grey's Anatomy, publicly revealed his ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) diagnosis in April 2025.

Nearly one year later, he died from complications of the severe neurological disease.
