Will Johnny Depp return to Pirates of the Caribbean franchise after Disney cut ties with him?
Anaheim, California - Could Captain Jack return for a sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film? Director Jerry Bruckheimer spills on Johnny Depp's possible return.
The acclaimed producer shared at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Night that "we're talking with Johnny" for Pirates of the Caribbean 6, per Deadline.
He continued, "We're working on a screenplay, and hopefully we can get this done."
The update comes after a reboot of the swashbuckler film franchise was announced with Margot Robbie as the lead in 2024.
Insiders have separately shared that the next movie won't be a continuation of Jack Sparrow's story. Instead, the next chapter will focus on the Barbie star, while Depp's Sparrow will be a side character.
They added that it's an "evolution" of the franchise.
Disney cut ties with the 63-year-old in 2018 amid his legal war with his ex-wife, Amber Heard, after she accused him of abuse in a Washington Post op-ed.
During his 2022 defamation trial, Depp testified that he felt betrayed by the entertainment company and wouldn't return for any amount of money.
The Alice in Wonderland actor was also replaced in the Fantastic Beasts series, but he has since been tapped to play Ebenezer Scrooge in the upcoming Christmas film directed by Ti West.
