The proud parents announced the arrival in a Vogue op-ed published Wednesday.

"13 days late, in the face of a solar eclipse and a meteor shower, she announced herself," Dunham said of her daughter.

The couple welcomed their baby via a surrogate, with the 40-year-old actor recalling, "I sat on a hospital bed, between the legs of a woman I hadn’t known a year ago, waiting for a glimpse of this person who I had been waiting for with something related to patience, but also none at all."

Dunham had previously been candid about her fertility struggles that came as a result of her endometriosis diagnosis. In 2017, she underwent a hysterectomy to address the painful condition.

In the op-ed, she alluded to spending "the last 12 years circling the fertility drain" in the hopes of having a family.

When the moment finally came, Dunham told her baby girl, "I'm your mama. You…you look nothing like I thought you would, but exactly right."

"We've been waiting for you, do you know that? It was so nice of you to come."
