The 50-year-old musician, known for hit songs like Hustlin', has been charged with one count of battery by strangulation and one count of battery after his arrest on Thursday morning, according to CNN.

One of his attorneys, Steve Sadow, claimed in a statement that Ross had been "wrongfully accused by an ex-girlfriend".

In court, another of his lawyers, Bradley Horenstein, attempted to play the "celebrity" card in the hopes of securing his release.

Horenstein argued that his client should have his release "expedited" due to his fame and claimed that his safety was at risk in prison, per TMZ.

The judge, however, swiftly shut down his request and said to Ross, who appeared via a video call, "I have no idea who you are."

The arrest comes days after his ex-girlfriend, Jazzma Kendrick, documented alleged injuries she suffered from Ross, including a "busted" lip, on Instagram.

"I don't know a lot of things, but I do know that a man that puts his hands on me, is a man that never loved me and never will,” Kendrick wrote over the image," she said, adding in another comment that Ross saw her as a "punching bag."

Ross went on to share a video to his Instagram on Thursday proclaiming his innocence.
